The case unwinds through landlord Valentina and her son Alex (who received emails impersonating a client, Hans Kessler, verified out of the country), black-light evidence showing the killer wanted a photo of the victim dying, and photographer Crispin Ratner — an Indie Sleaze revival figure with harassment history whose first accuser was the victim, Chloe.

The money trail runs to wealthy client Gideon and to an eBay account registered to Alex, who leaps to his death as police move to arrest him. Developed negatives point onward, while Ormewood and Angie work Betty's bloody-paw lead into an Albanian organized-crime household.

Will Trent Season 4 Episode 3 Recap

A model poses for photos — then the photographer attacks her with a knife and kills her, filming it. At the crime scene Amanda and Faith wait for Will, who is late mostly because of his dyslexia; in the same building he runs into Ava. The reunion is awkward, she makes the first move, and they exchange contacts.

The landlords — Valentina and her son Alex — worry about the murder ruining the property's market price and claim someone emailed Valentina posing as old client Hans Kessler, whom they let in for a photoshoot. Amanda quickly notes Kessler was verified out of the country at the time. Trent's black light reveals more, and he realizes the killer wanted a photo of the victim dying.

A parallel thread starts with Betty: Nico uses a dog-walk to get Ormewood exercising, Betty bolts into a neighbor's house, and comes out with bloody paws — while a strange couple claiming to be Viggo's niece hurries inside. Nico finds it strange, since Viggo had said he had no family. Ormewood recruits Angie for the bloody-paw case, sensing it means a lot; Viggo answers the door scared, with a cut on his cheek, lying that the couple left — while their car is still outside.

Ava identifies the photos found at the victim's house as the work of Crispin Ratner — a known photographer and pervert of the Indie Sleaze revival scene, out of the game after models reported him for harassment. The victim, Chloe, was the first model to stand up to him — motive, plus knowledge of the building. At the gallery of Ratner's wealthy death-fetish client, the team finds nothing conclusive, but Will thinks Gideon may have paid someone to kill Chloe.

Faith's list of possible eBay buyers turns up an account registered to Alex — and Alex jumps through a window as they move to arrest him, devastating his mother. Alex took the job to take care of his mom's mortgage. At the house they find more pictures of Chloe and negatives; Will brings them to Ava's studio to develop, and while they wait, they have sex.

Will Trent Season 4 Episode 3 Ending Explained

Spoilers below

This section discusses the ending of "Studio 4B" in detail. Stop here if you haven't watched the episode.

The hour's public case closes on Alex's suicide — the landlord's son who took dirty money to cover his mother's mortgage leaps to his death as the arrest lands, leaving Will blaming himself and Faith insisting it isn't his fault. The investigative threads stay deliberately open: the developed negatives are at Ava's studio, Valentina has vanished, and Ormewood and Angie's stakeout has just connected the couple at Viggo's to Albanian organized crime and a skipped New York trial — the probable cause they needed to finally search the house.
