Wednesday Season 1 Episode 2: Woe Is the Loneliest Number

Wednesday Addams fails to convince a skeptical Sheriff Galpin that a monster is behind the killings. She is shaken when Rowan reappears alive. Determined to investigate herself, Wednesday joins Enid in the Poe Cup race and helps defeat Bianca, while a disguised Principal Weems watches. Her visions lead her to a hidden library used by an old students' society, where she is captured.

The episode ends with Wednesday searching the hidden library she discovered behind the Poe statue and being captured — a bag is thrown over her head. Before that, during the Poe Cup, she touched the Joseph Crackstone crypt and had a vision in which an ethereal version of herself told her, "You are the key."

These events confirm that Wednesday's visions are connected to the Crackstone crypt and lead her to a hidden library. Her capture at the end leaves her fate unknown at this point.

Several questions remain unanswered: who the monster killing in the woods is, what the prophecy and the phrase "You are the key" mean, who captures Wednesday at the end of the episode, and whether Rowan is alive and what is happening with his apparent substitution.

Earlier, the expelled Rowan reappears and is shown being replaced: Thing follows Rowan to the train station, Rowan enters a restroom, and Principal Weems is seen in his place. The episode itself does not explain this.
