Wednesday Season 1 Episode 6: Quid Pro Woe

Wednesday's friends throw her a surprise birthday party, but she would much rather spend the occasion working the murder case. That leads her to attempt summoning her ancestor Goody Addams, who directs her to the Gates mansion. There, Wednesday glimpses Mayor Walker, who is soon run over and later dies in hospital.

Despite a lockdown, Wednesday, Enid, and Tyler sneak back to the mansion and discover the monster's severed body parts in the basement. The evidence vanishes before the authorities arrive, but Wednesday convinces Weems to let her stay and keep investigating.

Toward the end of the episode, Wednesday, Enid and Tyler sneak out to the Gates mansion, where they find the severed body parts of the monster's victims in a cellar. They are ambushed by the monster and forced to flee. When Wednesday later brings Sheriff Galpin to the mansion, all of the incriminating evidence has been removed. Principal Weems threatens to expel Wednesday; Wednesday shows her Rowan's mother's prophecy drawing, and Weems gives her one last chance. Enid, having had enough, berates Wednesday and moves out, leaving Wednesday alone. Wednesday takes out a ballerina music box she took from the mansion, which belonged to Laurel Gates, and finds inside photographs suggesting that someone is stalking her. The episode's final beat takes place at the hospital, where an unknown figure kills Mayor Walker, who had been in a coma after being run over.

The ending leaves several events unresolved rather than explained. The episode confirms that Mayor Walker is killed by an unknown figure, but does not confirm who that figure is, how they entered the hospital, or what their motive is. The episode also confirms that the evidence at the Gates mansion was removed between the trio's flight and Wednesday's return with Sheriff Galpin, but it does not confirm who removed it.

Several open questions remain. Who killed Mayor Walker is not confirmed. Who has been stalking Wednesday and left the photographs in the music box is not confirmed. Who removed the evidence from the Gates mansion is not confirmed. Whether Laurel Gates is still alive is not confirmed.

The episode does not confirm any future consequences of these events beyond what is shown. Any resolution of these mysteries is left to later installments, and nothing further is confirmed within this episode.
