The Boys Season 3 Episode 3: Barbary Coast

The episode opens with The Boys meeting Grace Mallory and Ryan at a safe house. Mallory reveals details of the 1984 Nicaragua operation: Payback was deployed with CIA-linked forces, chaos erupted during the attack, Black Noir was severely injured, and Crimson Countess claimed the Russians had killed and taken Soldier Boy. Butcher, furious that Mallory withheld this information, tells Ryan he does not want to look at him because of what happened to Becca. Ryan rejects Butcher, removes the pendant Butcher gave him, and leaves with Mallory.

Meanwhile, Butcher suffers alarming Temp V side effects, including involuntary heat vision, headaches, vomiting, and loss of control over his laser vision. Frenchie refuses Little Nina's demand to betray Cherie; afterward he tells Butcher that Little Nina can get them into Russia, and Butcher directs him to arrange a meeting. Homelander forces The Deep to eat Timothy, the octopus he considers a friend, as the price of returning to the Seven. Starlight warns Supersonic that Homelander is dangerous and asks him not to join the Seven, but Supersonic decides to join anyway to support her.

Homelander threatens widespread destruction if Starlight exposes the Flight 37 footage, removing her leverage. Hughie asks Annie to remain co-captain long enough for the Boys to pursue a weapon against Homelander. At the American Hero finale, Starlight announces Supersonic and Homelander announces The Deep as the two Seven recruits. Homelander then publicly states that he and Starlight are romantically involved, and she is forced to kiss him during the televised reshoot.

A-Train's brother Nathan urges him to use his platform to advocate on racial profiling and police brutality, leaving A-Train unsure.

The episode ends with Starlight concealing her distress while complying with Homelander's public relationship narrative. At the American Hero finale, Homelander publicly announces that he and Starlight are romantically involved, and she is forced to kiss him during the televised reshoot. This moment leaves her trapped in a narrative she cannot openly deny, with her leverage removed after Homelander threatened widespread destruction if she exposed the Flight 37 footage. The unresolved thread is whether Starlight can find another way to challenge Homelander now that she has been publicly tied to him and lost her practical leverage.
