Crimson Countess

Crimson Countess is a Vought superhero whose public persona was built for an earlier era of television, and the gap between that persona and the person is where the character lives. She is introduced at VoughtLand, the theme park version of the company's own history, where Frenchie and Kimiko confront her. She escapes by using her power and kills a park mascot in the process, an act that establishes her lethality and her disregard for the set dressing of her own legend.

Her place in the third season is as a loose end from Soldier Boy's past. The team learns that Soldier Boy has been asking after his old costume and where she lives, and that he is on his way to see her, which turns a nostalgia act into a target. She is a member of Payback's generation who survived into an era that no longer wants what she represents, and the people hunting her are themselves relics of the same war.

What makes her useful to the story is the contrast she offers to the modern Seven. Where Homelander's team is managed, marketed and measured, Crimson Countess is a leftover, a supe whose brand outlived its audience and who is dangerous partly because nobody is still writing her lines.

Crimson Countess is a recurring character in The Boys. Portrayed by Laurie Holden, the character appears in 3 episodes across 1 season. First seen in S3E2, “The Only Man in the Sky”, and last seen in S3E5, “The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies”.

Recorded story beats:

In S3E2, “The Only Man in the Sky” — Frenchie and Kimiko confront Crimson Countess at VoughtLand; she escapes after using her power and killing a park mascot.

In S3E5, “The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies” — that Soldier Boy sought his old suit and Crimson Countess's address and is heading to her.
