Ryan

Ryan Butcher is The Boys' endgame: the first child ever born with Compound V powers, the son of Becca Butcher and - genetically, unavoidably - of Homelander himself. Raised in hiding by his mother, Ryan is the world's most dangerous custody dispute: the man who swore to protect his wife's son (Billy Butcher) and the god who believes the boy is his heir both claim to love him, and only Ryan gets to decide what that love is worth.

The show refuses to make him a prop. Ryan's childhood under Becca's protection ends in Season 2 when Homelander finally binds him to him publicly - and in the same stretch of episodes, a single flash of Ryan's temper kills Becca with his own heat vision, the accidental matricide that becomes the series' deepest wound. Everything after follows from that night: Butcher's love curdling into fear of what the boy is, and Homelander's pride hardening into a project of inheritance.

Raised in the shadow of his father's empire across Seasons 3 and 4, Ryan becomes the live question the whole show has been building toward - whether love or blood decides what Homelander's son ultimately becomes. His scenes are quiet, which is what makes them terrifying: he has his father's power, his mother's gentleness, and no adult in his life who isn't using him as a symbol. The corpus tracks him from his hidden childhood through the final season's endgame.

Ryan Butcher is the first child born with Compound V powers - the son of Becca Butcher and, genetically, of Homelander himself - and he is the single most dangerous custody dispute on Earth.

Raised in hiding by his mother, then fought over by Butcher and Homelander after her death, Ryan's story is the show's endgame: whether love or blood decides what the world's most powerful boy becomes.

Ryan is the axis of the show's two great obsessions: Billy Butcher's vow to protect his wife's son, and Homelander's discovery of a child he believes is his heir. Both men claim to love him; only Ryan gets to decide what that is worth.
