Ransom Canyon Season 2 Episode 6: Can't Never Could

Ransom Canyon episode 6 opens with Staten meeting Sam, who already knows Staten met with Levi — because it is what he would have done — and tells his son he does not have the votes to beat him. Claire tries to talk to Quinn about Oliver leaving and feels better when Quinn assures her it is not about Staten. Kai calls Ellie about the revelation that Sidney is a person of interest and picks up Lucas on the side of the road. Staten asks Quinn not to marry Oliver and is thrilled when she says they broke up; he joins her on the road to Tuberville.

Ellie and Yancy meet Sam to go over business plans for the land supposedly containing oil, agreeing $8 million for drilling and 50% of the profit, with Sam setting a time for a surveyor. To cover their tracks, Ellie and Sidney steal Sam's phone for the number of geological analyst Jim Gantry. Ellie and Yancy attend their ultrasound and learn they are having a girl, while Sidney works on turning Gantry; by the time they come home, Sidney has drugged him twice and he is passed out on the bed.

Lucas confronts Lauren, reveals he knows she kissed Kit, and breaks up with her. Staten and Quinn hit car trouble on the road back; with no garage open until morning they take a hotel room. Over minibar drinks and truth or drink they revisit high school memories and Staten's visit with Levi; asked why she did not marry Oliver, Quinn drinks instead of answering. Yancy, dropped at Gantry's truck by Ellie, asks his old friend Freddie for help, and in dark clothing they break the site fence and spray-paint the security cameras.

The next morning Staten sneaks out to fix the part he deliberately damaged in Quinn's car to keep her overnight; Quinn is furious about missing work and about the letter story, though the letter was real. Freddie stands in as Jim's nephew for the surveyor meeting with Sam. Kai confronts Sidney about the murder investigation; she insists she already spoke to the New Orleans PD and shows him out, but her secrets are closing in. When Jim wakes, Sidney blackmails him with photos to report a faulty reading to Sam.

Quinn returns home and asks her mother whether Staten brought her a letter all those years ago: Claire took the letter and sent him away, not wanting Quinn to make life decisions because of him or end up like her. Staten and Yancy end up at the Silver Dollar to drink their worries away, and the episode closes with the reveal that Lucas and Ashley slept together.

As of S2E6, the surveyor meeting is staged with Freddie posing as Jim's nephew and Sidney has blackmailed the real analyst; the outcome is not shown.
