Ransom Canyon Season 1 Episode 8: The Bad Seed

Ransom Canyon episode 8 opens with the sheriff's department swarming Lucas's trailer to arrest Kit for his role in Randall's accident, acting on Reid's tip. Lucas is devastated: Staten has fired him, which makes bailing out Kit impossible, and with Kit in jail the still-minor Lucas faces the foster system. Kit agrees to a full confession to reduce his sentence, though Sheriff Dan still feels he is withholding key details.

Reid gives Lucas more insight into the blue Ford pickup: over the summer he and Tim bought molly off a man in Bandera who tried to shake them down, and Kit got them out of the jam, leaving them owing him. Months later Kit called them to scrub the VIN and dispose of the truck, and Reid did not know it was the truck until the sheriff told him. Reid wishes things were different, and Lucas gives him a beer as an olive branch.

Ellie presses Yancy to tell Cap the truth about who he really is, saying that if Cap does not accept him he can at least walk away having done the right thing. Yancy plans to confess but chokes when they fish together, afraid of losing the only family he has. Staten, talked around by Jake, rehires Lucas, who pitches solar power for the ranch. When Austin Water & Power reps test the wells and the samples come back brackish, Staten realizes his water has been spiked and that Paula Jo is forcing him toward a sale.

At the town meeting, Reid asks to make a statement and plays a taped confession of Paula Jo admitting to spiking the Double K wells — a double-cross set up by Lucas. Paula Jo is humiliated and Davis is furious: 'You just let a damn Kirkland work you over.' Staten tells Reid it was the right thing to do. Davis later tells Cap everything about Yancy's past, and when Yancy arrives, Cap is waiting with a loaded gun, ready to sell the ranch, and forces Yancy out. The episode ends with Quinn grabbing her keys and driving to visit someone — her destination unrevealed.
