FROM Season 1 Episode 2 Recap
The following FROM Season 1 episode 2 recap contains plot details through the end of the episode.
With the Matthews family now split between the town and Colony House, Tabitha and Julie struggle to adjust to life under Donna's watchful authority at the hilltop settlement. The communal atmosphere of Colony House offers a different kind of safety — one built on shared resources and collective vigilance — but Julie bristles against the loss of autonomy.
Out in the forest, Jim, Boyd, and Kristi work to treat Ethan's injuries from the RV crash. The boy's condition is serious enough to require moving him back to town, but the forest itself presents obstacles: strange sounds, an oppressive atmosphere, and the ever-present threat of nightfall. The rescue party makes it back, but the experience reinforces how dangerous the surrounding woods are.
The episode's central tragedy arrives from an unexpected source. Sara, a young woman who has been hearing disembodied voices, is compelled by those voices to commit a violent act. At the clinic, under the voices' influence, Sara kills Tobey — Jade's traveling companion who arrived in town in the same vehicle. After the killing, Sara deliberately leaves the clinic door open, allowing the nocturnal creatures to enter. The creatures kill Kenny's father and Gina, the town's nurse.
At the time, the residents believe the clinic tragedy was an accident caused by a door left unsecured in the chaos; no one yet knows that Sara, acting under the voices' influence, was responsible for both the murder and the open door.

Spoilers below
This section discusses the ending of "The Way Things Are Now" in detail. Stop here if you haven't watched the episode.
The FROM Season 1 episode 2 ending explained: the clinic tragedy — in which creatures killed Kenny's father and Gina the nurse after the door was left open — is, at this point in the story, understood by the residents as a horrific accident, a door unsecured in the chaos rather than a deliberate act. The town mourns, and Boyd's authority is tested not by suspicion of a human threat but by the weight of grief and the fragility of the systems that are supposed to keep people alive. The full circumstances of Tobey's death remain unresolved. The episode also introduces the Boy in White, a spectral child figure whose significance will unfold across the season, hinting that the town's mysteries extend beyond the physical threats.
