Overview
Episode Summary
A man is killed by a car bomb in an Atlanta suburb. Will, pulled out of a Spanish class he is taking to connect with his late mother, leads the response with Amanda and Faith under political pressure for fast answers. Bomb expert Cricket Dawson determines the blast was targeted, not terrorism, and Will determines the victim was a mistake: the bomber confused houses and cars, and the real target is accountant Arthur Highsmith, who is being extorted to deposit blackmail money to protect his son in prison.
Will and Faith uncover a wider extortion network built on prisoners' families — Emily Chu is warned mid-drive that her own car is bombed, and Cricket disarms it — and Faith follows Luke Sullivan's lead to the bombers' workshop and an encrypted message proving the operation is run from inside Georgia State Prison. A second bomb hidden in the impounded car detonates during the search; Cricket carries it away from the other cars and is killed.
Meanwhile Angie extorts her doctor into clearing her for duty, and Ormewood plants a tracker on his wife Gina's car and learns his suspicion of an affair was true. Will refuses to slow down after Cricket's death and goes to the prison to confront James Ulster.

Will Trent Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The episode opens in an Atlanta suburb: a man starts his car and is killed by an explosion. Elsewhere Will sits in a Spanish class — he is learning his mother's language to feel closer to her — until Amanda calls him away: she fears the bombing is terrorism, and the mayor, the media and the federal agencies are all demanding answers.
At the scene Will spots a diamond earring on the ground and orders Ormewood to bag it, over their usual bickering. Cricket Dawson, a bomb expert joining the team, reads the device: the bombing was targeted, not terrorism. She admits she is a fan of Will's work, and Will keeps being distracted by visions of his younger self — a memory of foster kids begging for help while the foster parents argued.
Will talks to the victim's wife and works out her husband was not the target: the bomber confused the houses and the cars. The real target is Arthur Highsmith, an accountant on the same block who drives a maroon car. Arthur refuses protection, denies having enemies, and admits only to money troubles. He is carrying a bag he claims holds socks; Will is sure it holds cash.
A blue car skids up outside the cafe where Arthur is eating and opens fire. The bag's money flies everywhere; Arthur grabs what he can and tells Will the truth — blackmailers demand half a million dollars a month, or they will kill his son, who is serving time in prison. A week earlier a woman at the bank told him she was being extorted the same way and suggested they team up. Faith says they will trace her through the bank footage; she is identified as Emily Chu.
Emily is reached mid-drive and told there is a bomb in her car. Cricket works the device while Will keeps Emily talking: she has been paying to protect her brother, and she reached out to other families in the same prison support group — the police rush to save three more targets. Cricket disarms the bomb, and Will asks her out.
Faith follows Luke Sullivan's lead to the bombers' workshop, where she and Cricket find the bomb-making materials and an encrypted message sent 18 hours before the first blast — its language and code confirm Will's theory that the operation is run from inside Georgia State Prison. Searching the impounded blue car, Will and Faith discover it holds a second bomb. The building is evacuated; Ormewood finds his son moments before the blast. Cricket carries the bomb away from the other cars, but the device's collapsible socket resets a timer each time she defeats a switch, and it detonates.
She is killed.
Around the case: Angie, still carrying nerve damage from her injuries, forces her doctor to sign her clearance papers by threatening to tell the medical board about their relationship. Ormewood, suspicious of his wife Gina's hours with the neighbor, plants a tracker on her car instead of asking her; she confirms the affair. Will turns Cricket down when she states her interest directly — unprofessional, he says — and after her death he refuses every attempt to slow him down.
He dresses, and leaves for Georgia State Prison to meet James Ulster, the man who has been sending him unwanted gifts and who killed his mother.

Analysis
Character Development
Will Trent
Will takes a Spanish class to connect to his mother, receives unwanted gifts from James Ulster that he refuses to discuss, and keeps seeing visions of his younger self at the foster home. Interpretation: Will runs the case hard to outrun the grief and the father question he is afraid to answer.
Angie Polaski
Still in physical therapy after her injuries, Angie threatens her doctor with the medical board when he refuses to clear her for duty. Interpretation: Angie pushes her return date ahead of her recovery and locks the compromise in with a threat.
Michael Ormewood
Told by Angie and Franklin to ask his wife point-blank about the neighbor, Ormewood instead plants a tracker on Gina's car. Interpretation: Ormewood's suspicion of Gina outruns his willingness to talk to her, and the shortcut costs him the truth he was not ready for.
Faith Mitchell
Faith keeps her distance from Luke Sullivan after their one-night stand, but accepts his case lead and follows it to the bombers' workshop. Interpretation: Faith separates the personal awkwardness from the work, and the work wins.
Amanda Wagner
Amanda pressures the team for a fast resolution under demands from the mayor, the media and the Feds, and later tries to dissuade Will from working without a break after Cricket's death. Interpretation: Amanda reads Will's state accurately but cannot force the pause she is asking for.

Analysis
Will Trent Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained
Spoilers below
This section discusses the ending of "Me Llamo Will Trent" in detail. Stop here if you haven't watched the episode.
The bombing case is cracked as an extortion ring: prisoners' families were being bled for cash under death threats, with the orders relayed from inside Georgia State Prison. The evidence that proves it — the encrypted message and the bombers' workshop — costs Cricket her life when a second device in the impounded blue car detonates; she carries it clear of the other cars and does not survive.
The final movement belongs to Will. Cricket died mid-conversation about the unwanted gifts Will has been receiving from James Ulster — the serial killer who murdered his mother — and about Will's fear of taking the DNA test that would tell him whether Ulster is his father. Amanda tries to make him stop working. He does not. He dresses and leaves for the prison to meet Ulster face to face, which is where the season is pointing when the episode ends.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who was the intended target of the car bombing in Will Trent Season 2 Episode 1?
Accountant Arthur Highsmith. The man who was killed was a mistake — the bomber confused the houses and the cars on the block. Will works this out from the victim's wife and from the earring at the scene.
Why was Arthur Highsmith being blackmailed?
He was being extorted for half a million dollars a month under threat that his son, who is serving time in prison, would be killed. The money had to be deposited at a specific bank.
How does Cricket Dawson die?
A second bomb is discovered inside the impounded blue car. The device's collapsible socket resets a timer each time she defeats a switch, so she carries the bomb away from the other cars to buy time. It detonates and kills her.
Who is running the bombing extortion ring?
The encrypted message found in the bombers' workshop — its language and code — confirms Will's theory that the operation is being run from inside Georgia State Prison, using prisoners' families as the extortion targets.
What is Will learning in Season 2 Episode 1?
Spanish. He is taking a class to learn his late mother's native language as a way to connect to her, and Amanda pulls him out of the class to respond to the bombing.
Do Will and Cricket get together?
No. Cricket tells Will directly that she is romantically interested in him, but he turns her down on the grounds that it would be unprofessional. She dies later in the episode.
Does Ormewood's wife cheat on him?
Yes. Ormewood plants a tracker on Gina's car instead of asking her; the timings he reads into it are wrong, but when he confesses, she confirms the affair with the neighbor.
What does Will do at the end of the episode?
He refuses to slow down after Cricket's death and leaves for Georgia State Prison to meet James Ulster — the man who killed his mother, who has been sending him unwanted gifts, and whose role in the case Will now has to confront.
