Randall Kirkland

Randall Kirkland arrives in the township of From with the wrong instincts for survival: loud, certain, armed with the belief that whatever this place is, it can be fought head-on. A passenger on the bus that delivers Season 2's new arrivals, he tries to force his way out of the diner lockdown while Donna and Kenny struggle to keep the frightened group inside - the first lesson in what the town does to men who treat its rules as surrender. His volatility finds an outlet in Jim Matthews, who recruits Randall and his drone for an uneasy partnership born of shared desperation; the plan fails, and Randall's conspiracy-thinking curdles into something dangerous - he ties Donna to a tree, is swarmed by cicadas outside when he throws away the van keys, and ends the season among the three people held by the music-box entity. Season 3 finds him changed: Boyd's choice to save Julie and Marielle while leaving Randall behind marks him, his fears open up to Marielle, and he and Julie seek fragments of normalcy - going to the movies, returning to the old Matthews house as her story-walking ability comes into focus. The horrors accumulate in him like they do in everyone; what makes Randall's arc worth watching is watching a man learn, slowly and imperfectly, that surviving this town is a team sport.

Randall Kirkland enters the town with the wrong instincts for survival: loud, armed with certainty and convinced he can face down whatever is out there on his own terms.

His friction with the township's law is immediate and instructive - a case study in what happens to newcomers who treat the place as a problem to be fought rather than a system to be understood.
