Kacey Fitzpatrick

Kacey Fitzpatrick is Mickey's younger sister and the reason Mickey cannot let the case go. Kacey struggles with addiction and is missing when the series opens; Mickey is searching the encampments she patrols for any trace of her.

A 2014 flashback shows Kacey's sobriety celebration, and a later one shows the relapse that fractured the sisters — Kacey pawned their mother's necklace, a wound Mickey still carries. Kacey was last seen getting into a red pickup truck on October 6, the detail Mickey pulls from store footage in the premiere.

Kacey had been living with Mickey and Simon after a prison term until Simon kicked her out. She also met Paula through the police youth club, the same place every victim passed through. She is Thomas's biological mother; Mickey raised him as her own.

Kacey reappears in episode 6 alive and pregnant, hiding from Mickey because she feared Mickey would take her second child the way she took Thomas.

She is also the link between the two halves of the story: she met Paula through the police youth club, the same place every victim passed through and where Simon counseled them.

Kacey is last seen by anyone in the family getting into a red pickup truck on October 6. She is absent from the present-day action for most of the season and appears in the flashbacks that explain it — the 2014 sobriety celebration, the relapse that followed, and the stretch when she was living with Mickey and Simon until Simon kicked her out.

For most of the season Kacey is an absence the plot is built around — a face Mickey looks for in every encampment and mistakes a stranger for in episode 3. The search for her and the murder investigation keep producing the same clue: the red pickup truck, the airport, the youth club.

Episode 6 reframes Kacey's disappearance. She is alive and pregnant, and she has been avoiding Mickey not because the killer took her but because she feared Mickey would take her second child. The same episode reveals she is Thomas's biological mother and that Simon slept with her, which redefines Mickey's role as Thomas's guardian.

From there Kacey moves from the person being searched for to the person who solves it. In episode 7 she and Mickey speak openly for the first time in a long while, she goes to find Emily, and her clarification that Emily said "partner" — meaning Mickey's current partner, Eddie Lafferty — redirects the whole investigation.

Kacey's arc is therefore a reversal: the person the season spends six episodes looking for becomes the person who names the killer, and the sister who was hiding from Mickey ends it sitting in the same room with her.

Mickey Fitzpatrick's younger sister, missing and struggling with addiction when the series begins, and the biological mother of Thomas

Kacey's central relationship is with her sister Mickey: estranged by addiction, by the pawned necklace, and by Mickey's failure to defend her during a 2014 relapse. She is Thomas's biological mother, though Mickey raised him; Simon, Mickey's ex, is Thomas's father and slept with Kacey while she was living with them. Kacey knew Paula from the police youth club. In episode 7 she seeks out Emily Moss, the surviving victim, which produces the clue that identifies the killer.
