Biography
Gee O'Brien — Gee Pop to Mickey and Kacey — is the Fitzpatrick family elder. He raised the sisters, and the household he runs is the one Thomas grows up in alongside Mickey.
Gee carries the family's older history. A flashback in episode 3 covers the death of the sisters' mother and the blame Gee attaches to it. He is also the keeper of a secret: Mickey and Kacey's father is still alive, and Gee has not told them.
Gee is still enough of a police presence to matter when Simon appears. At Thomas's birthday party in episode 4 he fights with Simon — the officer who turns out to be Thomas's father — and Simon leaves because of it.
On Christmas Eve Mickey finds letters proving her father is alive and goes to see him. Gee apologizes in episode 7 for hiding the truth.
Gee is also the household's fixed point during the investigation. Mickey and Thomas are living in his orbit while she works leads the department has not authorized, and he is there for the domestic scenes the case keeps interrupting — Thanksgiving in episode 3, Thomas's birthday in episode 4, Christmas Eve in episode 6.
He is one of the few adults in the story who is neither a police officer on the case nor a person Mickey is investigating, which is why the secret he keeps lands as hard as it does.
Character Overview
About Gee O'Brien
Gee's arc is the season's grudgest one: he is the family fixed point while everything else moves, and the thing he is holding is a lie of omission.
Early flashbacks place him at the sisters' mother's death and at the blame that followed — the oldest wound in the family, and the one that shaped how Mickey and Kacey were raised. In the present he is the elder who confronts Simon at Thomas's birthday party, and the one Mickey and Thomas are living with when the case closes in.
The secret breaks in episode 6, and it breaks without him. Mickey finds letters showing her father is alive and goes to visit him, finding a pregnant Kacey there instead. Gee apologizes in episode 7 for concealing it — one of the season's quieter reconciliations, and the one that costs him the least to make and the most to have delayed.
By the finale he is part of the family Mickey comes back to: she reunites with Kacey, Thomas and Gee, and visits Kacey's newborn daughter.
Gee's season is therefore a study in what a household absorbs without discussing. He raised two sisters, buried one generation of that family, hid the surviving one from them, and is still standing in the same house when the case ends.
