Character Biography
Biography
Fiona Miller arrives in Hope Valley from San Francisco with big-city polish and modern ambitions, first hired as one of the town's new telephone operators before putting down roots of her own. Practical and restlessly inventive, she is the woman who ignores the men's verdicts and supplies the antenna that makes Hope Valley's first radio broadcast possible - then keeps building: a salon where the town's women gather, and eventually a radio salon of her own design. Her salon chair doubles as the town's advice desk; she is the one Mei Sou turns to when Mike Hickam's mixed signals need decoding, and her counsel is usually to speak plainly and give people a second chance. Her deepest friendship is with Faith Carter, the doctor she tries to recruit to a Nashville hospital, and her teasing, loyal triangle with Faith and Mei anchors many of the town's lighter scenes. Fiona's story is one of a woman permanently in motion - business plans, travel, suffrage-era ambitions - who nonetheless keeps choosing Hope Valley as the place to return to, bringing the wider world back with her every time. Her sister's campaign in Nashville pulls at her too - the suffrage cause she funds by eventually selling the salon, the bigger world that keeps calling her back out of the valley.
Character Overview
About Fiona Miller
Fiona Miller comes to Hope Valley from San Francisco as one of the town's new telephone operators, bringing big-city polish, modern ambitions and a no-nonsense charm to the valley.
Her first seasons are a study in restlessness. She looks for a way to stay in Hope Valley, launches a new business venture, and gets close enough to an oil deal that Henry Gowen starts worrying about what the investors intend. Then she goes: Fiona spends the next stretch of the series in Nashville, campaigning with her sister to send the first woman from Tennessee to congress, and comes back to Hope Valley for Mike Hickam and Mei Sou's wedding - where Mike has her stand up as his best woman.
Season 12 is her season of choosing. Fiona returns to town with a stranded heiress in tow, admits that the salon sale is the money she needs to keep her suffragette work going in San Francisco, and then invents something Hope Valley did not know it wanted: the radio salon she names “The Daily Dialogue”. By the end of the season she has told Harold yes, sold the salon and taken a radio station in Port Townsend, saying goodbye to Faith, Mei, Mike and Elizabeth on her way out of town.
