Colter's investigation quickly exposes the official story as a lie: the bodies were moved after the killings, and the corrupt Sheriff Walcott abandons Colter miles from town to stall him.

Tracking Ben through the woods, Colter is knocked out and wakes tied up in Ben's booby-trapped cabin — with Angie, alive and unharmed. Ben did not kidnap her; he saved her. Angie witnessed the bikers stab the off-duty cop (a "snitch") to cover up the gun-running operation the bikers ran with the sheriff's office, and the bikers turned on her to silence her.
