House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 5: We Light the Way

Daemon visits his estranged wife Rhea Royce in the Vale, where a tense and violent encounter ends in her death. Meanwhile, Viserys and Rhaenyra travel to Driftmark to broker an agreement with Lord Corlys Velaryon: Rhaenyra will marry Laenor Velaryon, uniting the two most powerful Valyrian bloodlines.

Alicent, influenced by her father's warnings and her own growing suspicions, seeks the truth about Rhaenyra's virtue. When Rhaenyra denies impropriety, Alicent demands she swear it before Viserys, creating a public rift between the two women.

Criston Cole, tormented by his relationship with Rhaenyra and her impending marriage, confesses to Alicent, offering information that further poisons the queen's view of the princess.

The episode ends with the wedding feast of Rhaenyra and Laenor, marred by violence when Criston Cole kills Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, Laenor's lover, in a brutal melee. The wedding proceeds, but the celebration is stained with blood.

The wedding feast violence irreparably damages the relationship between the two factions.
