Lord Corlys 'The Sea Snake' Velaryon

Lord Corlys Velaryon, called the Sea Snake, is the richest man in Westeros - a navigator whose nine great voyages built a trading empire and a fleet that makes Driftmark the sea-power of the realm. He is also the show's study in prestige denied: his wife Rhaenys was passed over for the throne for being a woman, and the grants his house has earned are eternally outweighed by the Baratheon and Targaryen names it has married into.

His arc bends from grievance to cause. Rhaenyra's succession is, to Corlys, a second chance for the honor the realm withheld from Rhaenys - and the Blacks' claim is sealed when his son Laenor marries the princess. He fights the campaign of his life from the deck of his flagship, even after a wound nearly kills him.

Corlys grounds the fantasy in logistics: dragons win battles, but his ships, gold and ports win wars. Around him, the grandsons of his line - Addam and Alyn of Hull - rise from his shipyards toward fates he cannot yet see.

Corlys's marriage to Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen Who Never Was, is the show's great equal partnership - grief over Laena and Laenor shared as equals. His alliance with Rhaenyra and Daemon is sealed by blood across two generations (Baela and Rhaena are his granddaughters), and his cause is the Blacks' navy. His courtship of legacy extends to the Hull brothers, Alyn and Addam, whose service in his yards presages their larger role in the coming war.
