Elgin Williams

Elgin Williams arrives in the township of From as one of its newest residents and immediately becomes one of its strangest: a man who dreamed of the place before he understood what it was. His visions put him in the position every sensitive soul in this story ends up in - knowing something important that nobody will believe. A music-box nightmare in the bathtub marks him out early; by Season 3 the kimono woman's instructions have turned him from passive witness into active agent, preparing a hidden space connected to Fatima as her pregnancy approaches its crisis. Convinced the instructions will save everyone, Elgin crosses the line the town cannot forgive: he abducts Fatima and imprisons her in an underground root cellar, keeping her hidden through the birth until Boyd forces him to reveal where she is. The cost is paid in his own body - the aftermath of Boyd's torture hangs over the township's splintering trust - and even then the town keeps using him: he and Fatima work on a protective figure against the new threat. When Sophia is exposed as an agent of the Man in Yellow, Elgin is already in her path; her sabotage ends with Elgin dead, killed after refusing to cooperate, as the town's plan and her conspiracy collide.
