The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 5 Recap
The episode begins at sunrise - the second morning Ethan skips his run - and he finds the condom wrapper Harper placed in the bathroom. He quickly realizes she knows and tells her what happened that night and why he had not said so, indignantly adding that she should be glad he did not cheat even under the circumstances. Harper and Ethan later meet Cameron and Daphne for wine tasting in Noto, where Harper's biting, suggestive remarks make Cameron realize she knows about that night.
Albie wakes up with Lucia and discovers she is a sex worker, but they decide to keep seeing each other; when Dominic tries to caution him, Albie brushes his father off in favor of naive idealism. Dominic finally speaks to Bert about the impact the older man had on him, refusing to blame Bert for his sex addiction but noting everyone knew of Bert's infidelity, including Bert's late wife, who stayed bitter about it.
Valentina, annoyed that Rocco flirts with Isabella, transfers him to beach duty. Mia correctly deduces that Valentina is a lesbian and proposes she will sleep with her if Valentina lets her sing; stunned, Valentina allows Mia to sing until Giuseppe returns - and Mia delivers an impressive performance.
Tanya, Portia, Quentin, Jack and Quentin's posse travel to Palermo by yacht. Tanya is genuinely impressed by the show of wealth and feels relieved that, unlike people who want her for her money, Quentin seems ridiculously rich himself. That night the older group attends an opera while Portia and Jack dine in town. But Tanya wakes in the middle of the night and sees Quentin having sex with Jack, his supposed nephew.

Harper Spiller

Interpretation: Harper's composure is thinning; the gap between what she knows and what Ethan admits widens the crack in their marriage.
Ethan Spiller
Ethan confesses the night's events to Harper and frames his restraint as something she should applaud.
Confirmed in the episode: Ethan tells Harper he did not cheat and expects credit for it.
Interpretation: Ethan's tone - expecting praise for the bare minimum - reveals a blind spot that Harper reads as contempt, pushing her further away.
Dominic Di Grasso
Dominic tells Bert his rose-tinted view of his marriage is self-delusion and that Bert's infidelity was known to everyone, including Bert's late wife.
Confirmed in the episode: Dominic finally confronts Bert about the family pattern of infidelity and denial.
Interpretation: Dominic's speech is his clearest break from the family denial, though whether he can change remains open.
Albie Di Grasso
Albie learns Lucia is a sex worker but decides to keep seeing her, ignoring Dominic's caution.
Confirmed in the episode: Albie chooses to pursue Lucia despite knowing what she does.
Interpretation: Albie's idealism collides with reality; his willingness to overlook Lucia's life is both generous and naive.
Valentina
Valentina transfers Rocco for flirting with Isabella and, after Mia deduces she is a lesbian, allows Mia to sing.
Confirmed in the episode: Valentina acts on her attraction to Isabella indirectly and lets Mia perform.
Interpretation: Valentina's control over the staff and her suppressed desires begin to surface, setting up a later crossing of a line.
Tanya McQuoid
Tanya is impressed by Quentin's wealth in Palermo and then wakes to find him with Jack, unsettled but not yet alarmed.
Confirmed in the episode: Tanya enjoys Quentin's apparent riches and witnesses something odd between him and Jack.

Spoilers below
This section discusses the ending of "That's Amore" in detail. Stop here if you haven't watched the episode.
Episode 5 does not confirm what Quentin and Jack's relationship truly is or whether Tanya is in danger. Tanya witnesses Quentin and Jack having sex and is unsettled, but the episode leaves it unrevealed whether they are actually uncle and nephew, whether Quentin's wealth is real, and what scheme - if any - is unfolding. Ethan's confession does not repair his marriage, and Albie's pursuit of Lucia remains willfully naive. Who dies in the season is still unknown.
