Overview

Episode Summary

Vince succeeds in persuading Meg's parents to drop their lawsuit, so the department never gets the chance to blame Bode for Meg's death and Bode is allowed to stay in the fire program. Vince is proud of Bode for surviving the bridge fall but feels too much time has passed to say so; Sharon tells him it is never too late, though the day turns out to be anything but ordinary.

Sharon is at home running dialysis while Vince teaches a fire-prevention class at the firehouse, and when a crash knocks out the town's power, the firehouse switches to a backup generator — but Sharon's house loses electricity and she can no longer use her dialysis machine. She is caring for her neighbor's daughter, Cara, who once dated Bode; Bode had told his family Cara dumped him, when in fact he ended the relationship after losing his confidence following a baseball injury.

The firehouse generator kicks in, and when the crew opens a truck door to survey the damage, a delivery truck crashes into the building. The crash rocks the fire-prevention class and ignites a large fire that takes several extinguishers to control. The delivery driver, who had been working overtime and had not slept in days, keeps trying to drive even after the crash until Manny talks him down. The truck has run over Charlie, trapping him underneath; it is Charlie's last day in the program and he had earned an early release. The crew frees him, but he begins to crash and needs CPR.

At Sharon's house, Cara has an exit wound and needs medical attention; Sharon performs CPR on her and then weakens herself after a failed dialysis session, calling repeatedly for an ambulance that never comes. Vince arrives and treats Sharon with Cara's help — Cara is a nurse, having followed that dream after Bode ended their relationship. At the firehouse, Eve gets Charlie's pulse back and he wakes up, leaving the hospital a free man. The episode ends with Gabriela telling Jake that she has feelings for Bode and that she cannot be in a relationship with someone else, so the two are over.

Fire Country Season 1 Episode 10 Recap

Vince has convinced Meg's parents to drop their lawsuit. In doing so, his department never gets the chance to blame Bode for Meg's death, and Bode is not punished: he gets to stay and continue in the fire program, which makes Vince happy. Vince is proud of his son for surviving the bridge fall, and he wishes he had told Bode right after it happened; now he feels too much time has passed to say the words. Sharon tells him it is never too late to tell Bode they are proud of him, and he says he will do it — but no one expected the day they were about to have.

Sharon is at home doing dialysis while Vince goes to work at the firehouse. He is showing a class how to deal with a gas fire when they hear a car crash, which knocks out their electricity for a minute until the backup generator kicks in — at least for the firehouse. The rest of the town is not so lucky. Sharon's house loses power, and she can no longer use her dialysis machine. She is also helping her neighbor's daughter, Cara. Cara used to date Bode; they broke up around the time Bode was hurt and could no longer play baseball.

Bode told his family that he was dumped, but the truth is different — he dumped her. He lost his self-confidence after his injury, pushed people away, and made his family push people away too. Sharon and Cara are reconnecting at the house, and Sharon is helping Cara with her injury; Cara has been touched by a live electrical current.

The firehouse's generator kicks in, and the crew feels it is safe enough to open one of the truck doors to check the damage outside — and that is when a delivery truck comes crashing into the firehouse. The crash rocks the fire-prevention class off its feet and turns into a massive fire that the crew fights with several extinguishers. The driver is not done causing havoc: he keeps trying to drive his car even after the crash.

He has been working overtime and has not slept in days, and Manny finally convinces him to stop pressing the pedal by telling him he is hurting himself more than anyone else. The delivery driver has also driven over someone when he crashed into the firehouse — he drove over Charlie. Charlie is trapped under the truck, and it is literally his last day in the program: he has earned an early release and was supposed to spend his last day learning tips from Eve.

Everyone works together to get Charlie out and to keep his spirits up, and it takes a while. Once he is freed, Charlie begins to crash, and they have to perform CPR on him on top of the wounds he suffered when he was run over. Back at Sharon's house, things take a turn for the worse: Cara has an exit wound and needs medical attention, and at one point Sharon has to perform CPR on her. Cara is too weak to return the favor as Sharon weakens after her failed dialysis session, and Sharon calls for an ambulance several times. It never shows, but Vince does.

He is able to treat his wife, in large part thanks to Cara — who is a nurse, having decided to follow her dream after Bode ended things. Sharon likes her again.

Eve gets a pulse back with Charlie, and he wakes up and complains about seeing everyone's faces again. He has used his last day, so he is now a free man and wakes up in the hospital as one; everyone is going to miss him. But Gabriela and Jake are over: she tells him that she has feelings for Bode and that she cannot be in a relationship while having feelings for someone else.

Fire Country Season 1 Episode 10 Ending Explained

Spoilers below

This section discusses the ending of "Get Your Hopes Up" in detail. Stop here if you haven't watched the episode.

The firehouse fire is resolved: Charlie is freed from under the truck, revived with CPR, and wakes up in the hospital as a free man after completing his last day in the program. At Sharon's house, Vince arrives and treats Sharon with Cara's help, resolving that crisis as well.

The episode leaves several threads open. Sharon's failed dialysis session and her reliance on a machine that the blackout disabled raise the ongoing question of her health, which is not resolved here. Cara's recovery and her renewed presence in Sharon's life are left to develop. And Gabriela ends her relationship with Jake over her feelings for Bode, a decision whose consequences — for Jake, for Bode, and for the station — are left for later episodes.
