Sunny Wexford is the daughter of Piedmont Kings gang leader Rafael Wexford, played by Kyrie McAlpin. She appears in Season 3 — six credited episodes — and her kidnapping is the engine of the season's two-part premiere.

Sunny is introduced as leverage. When off-duty officers are shot and Chester Flynn dies, the mayor's rush to pin the murder on Rafael produces a standoff, and the assassins behind the killing take Sunny to force her father's confession. Rafael surrenders and confesses to a murder the evidence increasingly says he did not commit because his daughter is being held. The GBI and APD race to rescue her before the frame-up becomes permanent, and the premiere's second hour ends with its twin rescues complete: Sunny is home, the leverage that forced Rafael's false confession is removed, and the false confession itself becomes a live problem for the real killers — the corrupt cops the assassins were covering — rather than a closed case.

Sunny returns mid-season in a very different register. In the ninth hour Will is assigned temporary care of her, and the caretaking arrangement tests the fragile trust between Will and Rafael, with questions about Rafael's loyalty simmering through the hour. The show uses the arrangement to do two things at once: give Sunny a guardian whose competence with frightened children the series has established since Betty, and put Rafael's debts and loyalties under the season's microscope without making his daughter pay for them.

The Piedmont Kings thread — Rafael, Sunny, and the parolee orbit of Carver and Freddy Markovic — runs back through the season's sixth hour as well, keeping her father's world and her safety knotted together. Within the season's credit data, Sunny's story ends where the trust questions leave it: a kid recovered twice, once from a kidnapper and once from being a bargaining chip, whose father's debts are the reason neither rescue was the last.

What the show does with Sunny's two rescues is worth reading closely. The first is procedural: the team works around the mayor's closed case — the stolen car, the informant's account, the evidence of a frame — and finds the girl before the frame becomes permanent. The second is personal: Will, a man whose own childhood was spent being moved through systems, is the one assigned to hold her daily life together while the adults argue about loyalty. The season's answer to the question of whether a gang leader's daughter can be safe is the same answer the series always gives: safety is a household, not a verdict — and Sunny gets one, temporarily, with Will.
