Grandmama Hester Frump

Grandmama Hester Frump arrives in Wednesday Season 2 as the Addams family's ultimate trump card: the family matriarch whose enormous fortune makes even wealth-obsessed mortals lose their minds. Joanna Lumley plays her with immaculate, amused disdain - a woman so rich and so unbothered that she treats the mortal world like a mildly disappointing garden.

Season 2 quickly reveals why she matters. Barry Dort's entire scheme is a long con aimed at her massive fortune, and he has been blackmailing Bianca to use her siren song as the tool - making Hester the hidden prize of the season's central plot without ever losing her composure. The reveal reframes the season's villainy as simple greed aimed at the one family that cannot be intimidated.

The finale deepens her considerably. In "This Means Woe" the season discloses her darkest arrangement: Ophelia has been held captive all along in a hidden chamber under Hester's control, and the message she leaves behind - scrawled in blood across the wall - names Wednesday as the one who must die. The season closes with Wednesday and her allies fighting Slurp, the fully regenerated zombie revealed to be Isaac Night, Gomez's former best friend and Tyler's uncle.

As grandmother to Wednesday and Pugsley, Hester gives the series something it never had before: an Addams elder whose menace is financial and personal at once, and whose secrets are not finished unfolding.

Grandmama Hester Frump is a recurring character in Wednesday. Portrayed by Joanna Lumley, the character appears in 4 episodes across 1 season. First seen in S2E4, “If These Woes Could Talk”, and last seen in S2E8, “This Means Woe”.
